Philosophy
A person-centered approach to aromatherapy begins with respect.
Aroma Compass embraces a slower, more conscious and more human approach to essential oils — balancing botany, sensory intelligence, safety and respect for living systems.
Botanical Respect
Plants are not trends.
Essential oils are complex botanical extracts. Their richness lies not only in their aromas, but also in their chemistry, botanical origin, cultivation and the way they are used.
Aroma Compass approaches aromatherapy as a practice of attention and relationship — never as a collection of exaggerated promises or simplistic solutions.
French Heritage
Between science, intuition and sensory experience.
Modern aromatherapy was deeply influenced by French pioneers such as René-Maurice Gattefossé and Marguerite Maury, who helped shape a more human, individualized, and sensory approach to essential oils.
Why Aroma Compass?
Why Aroma Compass?
A compass does not make decisions for us. It does not impose a single path. It simply helps us find direction when we need guidance.
This idea gave birth to Aroma Compass. Our ambition is not to provide ready-made answers, but to offer reliable guidance for better understanding essential oils, their uses, limitations, and precautions.
More than a destination, we aspire to be a point of orientation: a compass for exploring aromatherapy with greater awareness, safety, and respect.
Our Philosophy
A compass rather than a destination.
Aroma Compass was born from a simple conviction: essential oils deserve more than exaggerated promises, universal recipes, or passing trends.
We believe no person can be reduced to a symptom, a temporary challenge, or a label. Behind every request lies a life story, habits, environment, emotions, experiences, and a unique sensitivity.
This philosophy echoes a reflection often attributed to Hippocrates: 'It is more important to know the person who has the condition than the condition the person has.'
While aromatherapy should never replace appropriate medical care, this idea remains deeply relevant. Understanding a person as a whole is often just as important as understanding the reason they seek guidance.
This approach also reflects the legacy of Marguerite Maury, a pioneer of individualized aromatherapy who viewed every person as unique. Today, modern understanding of biological individuality, personal sensitivities, and phenotypes continues to support this perspective.
Every individual has a unique history, physiology, environment, and sensitivities. Essential oils are never used in isolation. Their relevance always depends on the person, their goals, experience, and individual circumstances.
Before discussing essential oils, we first seek to understand the individual. What are their goals? What is their environment? What habits shape their daily life? Which aromas resonate with them? What forms of support are already part of their journey?
Because behind every request lies a unique story.
Aroma Compass was also born from a deep respect for the living world.
Behind every bottle stand growers, farmers, harvesters, and distillers who dedicate their expertise to creating quality aromatic extracts.
Terroir, altitude, climate, harvest timing, and distillation methods all profoundly influence the aromatic and chemical profile of an essential oil.
This is why we place particular value on artisan distillers, independent producers, and transparent supply chains that preserve authentic craftsmanship. We are proud to highlight the producers we work with and support local expertise whenever possible.
We also believe wellbeing often benefits from a multidisciplinary approach.
When appropriate, we encourage collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, psychologists, Ayurvedic practitioners, bodywork professionals, and other complementary disciplines.
Our goal is not to provide simplistic answers to complex situations.
Our ambition is more humble: to offer a space for listening, understanding, and guidance. To help people better understand aromatic plants, their uses, limitations, and precautions. To encourage a more conscious relationship with essential oils, with oneself, and with the living world.
Ultimately, Aroma Compass does not claim to be a destination. Simply a compass.
Professional Ethics
Guidance before promises.
Responsible aromatherapy extends beyond selecting essential oils. It also requires safety, transparency, listening and respect for professional boundaries.
Aroma Compass embraces principles commonly promoted by professional aromatherapy organizations such as the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA), including education, client respect, safety and responsible use of essential oils.
We do not claim to diagnose, treat or cure disease. Our role is to support wellbeing, comfort and quality of life while respecting each individual situation.
When appropriate, we encourage collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, psychologists, Ayurvedic practitioners, bodywork professionals and other complementary disciplines. Holistic wellbeing often benefits from multiple perspectives.
Science, Tradition & Terroir
Between botanical heritage and modern knowledge.
Aroma Compass values both the historical heritage of aromatherapy and modern knowledge emerging from aromatic chemistry, toxicology, pharmacognosy and olfactory sciences.
Traditional uses can be valuable, but they should always be interpreted within their botanical, chemical, safety and individual context.
We place particular value on terroir, artisan distillers and independent producers who preserve authentic craftsmanship. Behind every essential oil lies a landscape, a climate and dedicated people.
This is why we value transparency regarding our sourcing and proudly highlight the producers we work with.
The work of René-Maurice Gattefossé helped popularize the term aromatherapy in the twentieth century. Later, Jean Valnet and Marguerite Maury contributed to complementary approaches combining botanical rigor, personalization, and sensory experience.
Certain essential oils require specific precautions. Dosage, method of use, medications, age, pregnancy, and individual medical circumstances should always be considered before use. Whenever uncertainty exists, advice from a qualified healthcare professional remains essential.
“Each individual responds to essential oils through their own balance, experience, and sensitivity.”
— Inspired by Marguerite Maury
